Burst onto the scene in 2017 with 11 touchdowns and 16+ yards per catch, both school records for the tight end position. He continued his progression in 2018 despite the ball being spread around, even sharing duties with fellow position-group teammate and NFL Draft prospect TJ Hockenson. Fant is the kind of athlete who will cause the opposition to game plan around him. His blend of size, speed, and ball skills are near-impossible to stop with one player alone. He still plays and comes across raw at times, but he has shown enough in two years to, at the very least, be a dangerous threat in the passing game. His ceiling is as high as any pass catcher in the class. The kind of athlete that can steal the show at workouts. Elite speed, explosion, and change of direction that carries over onto the gridiron. Easy burst and acceleration. Reaches top speed in an instant. A knife up the seam that can penetrate right through the secondary. Body control is always there. Can break himself down and change direction on a dime. Sharp turns and cuts while moving at full speed. Easily adjusts to balls above or behind him. Snares the ball with his hands away from his body. A true match-up nightmare. Can hold his own as a blocker. Effort is there and he can lock his hands on, using his athletic base to stay in front of defenders. Will need to add some mass and power to his lower body. Doesn’t get enough movement off the line as a straight-ahead blocker. The physical-ness of his blocks seem to have an on/off switch. Needs to do a better job selling double routes. Telegraphs his intentions. Doesn’t track the ball consistently on vertical routes and will have the occasional lapse in concentration. 2018 stats: 39-519, 13.3 ypr, 7 TD. OSR:1/23. First/second round.
