Ourlads' Profile:
2015 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about DEION BARNES: Penn State, 6037 260 4.95. Junior entry and three-year starter from Philadelphia, PA. A good athlete who has a knack to pressure the quarterback and be disruptive in the backfield. Plays square along the line of scrimmage with good positional awareness. Works to finish plays. Can play down with his hand in the dirt or stand up in a two point stance. Flashes a quick first step when asked to stunt from the edge. More athlete than football player right now. Must develop overall body and tackling strength. Has some good tools to develop. The best thing he does is pressure the quarterback. He doesn’t always get to the drop back point but moves the quarterback off the spot. Played in the Senior Bowl as a graduated junior and did a good job in pass rushing one-on-one drills. He flashed a quick take off, quickness, and a burst once he got off a block. Barnes is an ascending talent who needs pro physical and skill development. Slender build. Needs more upper and lower body strength to take on and ward off blocks. Functional tackling strength is sub-par. Played defensive end in a four man front at Penn State and projects to a 3-4 outside linebacker because of strength and athletic ability. Out of control at times when he has a clear shot at the quarterback and misses the tackle. Must protect legs better, easily cut by a tackle or back. Needs to improve his hand use and develop a variety of pass moves. 2014 stats: 44 T, 12.5 TFL, 6 sacks, 2 QBH, 1 FF. Not invited to Combine. Fourth/ fifth round. (A-32 1/4, H-10, BP-31, SS-4.32).
