2024 NFL Prospect Rankings: Centers

Projected Round: 1-2

In 2022, Powers-Johnson became a primary reserve on the offensive line, logging snaps at right guard, center, left guard, and right tackle. That season, however, wouldn’t come close to the dominance he put on display in 2023. He has a solid frame for the position and flashes hand and lower body power stunning defenders in their tracks. Excellent lateral movement he can adjust to pick up stunts and maintain his base. He’s quick getting to the second level coming off double teams. Adept at blocking in space. Still a work in progress as he will get a little tall at times losing leverage, but the tools are there as a long-term starter.

West Virginia

Projected Round: 2-3

Former guard who transitioned to center full time in 2021. A four-time state champion wrestler in high school with multiple West Virginia team awards for strength and conditioning work. Rock-hard, squatty frame that can move with all the subtleties to gain positional and angle advantages. Accelerates in a hurry and brings his power on the move. Leverage wins come easy to him. Highly experienced shot caller in the middle who can direct traffic and communicate well. Will not get his hands on fast enough at times and lack of length alone will hinder his upside.

Georgia

Projected Round: 2-3

Three-year starter. Quick to snap and step he fires off the ball and gets into a defender's frame with power and foot quickness. Can get to the next defender with excellent lateral movement to seal on zone plays. Powerful on straight up and down blocks with the ability to knock a defender off the ball. Picks up stunts and can stun pass rushers with strong hands and knee bend. Can overplay defenders at times giving up the back door. At times will get upright on initial strike losing leverage. He shows the potential of an NFL starter.

Projected Round: 3-4

Has game experience at four offensive line positions, including both tackle spots. That kind of versatility will mean a lot for teams that are looking for depth along the line. His athleticism in the open field and on-field intelligence give fuel to the idea that he still has a lot of margin to acquire from where he currently stands. While his tape leaves desire for more, there is enough to project a valuable sixth lineman-type role early on in his career with the potential for more.

Penn State

Projected Round: 3-4

Has played all five spots along the offensive line throughout his career. His athleticism stands out, as does his strength on the move. Teams that want to move their center laterally often will use a guy like this to maximum potential. The way he can peel off a combo block and get his hands on a linebacker while keeping his legs chopping is special. While he does not play the strongest anchor in pass protection, his ability to bend with inside hands while adjusting his feet can go a long way.
