Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JESSE LUKETA:
Penn State, 6027 253 4.89. Two-year starter, Ottawa, Ontario. Third-team All-Big Ten in 2021. Versatile prospect who has played off the ball as a stack linebacker and on the edge both upright and in a three-point stance. Most of his 2021 snaps came as an edge defender in a four-down defense. Plays with an aggressive style showing outstanding lateral movement and agility. Quick with strong violent hands attacking blocks. Keeps them inside and can stack and shed bigger linemen working to the ball. Very good at setting the edge with a second effort to redirect off blocks. Quick to recover and doesn’t stay blocked. Always around the ball with relentless effort to chase to the point of attack. Decent range in pursuit he can chase from alley to alley playing off the ball. As a stack linebacker, flashes downhill reactions and instincts to fit inside gaps. Form tackles and finishes when faced up on a ball carrier. In limited reps has shown he can widen with a flaring running back in man coverage, and play underneath zone coverage working the flat. Has fluid transitions to get under intermediate routes. Flashes blitz skill but can be late off the ball and doesn’t always close. Occasionally jumps the shallow receiver in zone coverage giving up an intermediate ball behind him. Off the ball needs to work downhill consistently as his reactions can be too lateral giving up too much room to run. Will be too aggressive and overrun at times. Occasionally misses against a shifty runner by leaving his feet. Has potential as an off the ball linebacker like a 4-3 Sam but could also play the Leo or Buck position in a 3-4. Will have to develop but has tools to work with.
