Two year starter, Salt Lake City, UT. First team All-Big 12 the past two seasons. Transfer from LSU where he was a rotational player on the 2019 National Championship team. Limited playing time as a sophomore caused a transfer to Baylor where he blossomed into a dominant interior defender. Imposing size he is more than a space eater showing lateral agility to make plays down the line and chase outside. He’s a stout defender who routinely requires double teams in the run game. Shows first step quickness and can explode into a block. Using a strong upper and lower body he stuns blockers with a powerful first step. He’s pushed double teams back into ball carriers. Is effective against down blocks versus power run schemes by holding his ground while getting upfield. He’s effective with a swim move escaping blocks. More than a push guy in the pass rush he flashes the ability to escape and chase the quarterback. Effective pushing and collapsing the pocket creating opportunities for edge rushers. Doesn’t always finish plays. After an initial burst he can fizzle out and get upright on blocks. Can rely too much on arm over move to attack a gap rather than stack and shed. Needs to be more consistent with overall shed technique as he can get stalemated by a powerful blocker. Has limited range in pursuit and his fit will be based on the scheme. Played primarily as a three technique at Baylor but has the potential to be a versatile NFL interior defender. Could fit as a one technique that rotates as a three technique in various packages including the nickel. Should be a solid rotational player.
