Ourlads' Profile:
2018 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about AVONTE MADDOX: Pittsburgh, 5091 184 4.41. Three-year starter from Detroit, MI. Active undersized corner who plays bigger than he is. Played the boundary corner in the Pitt defense and was not afraid to mix it up over a backside tight end. Throws his body around at tackles and is very aggressive in press man coverage. Good movement skills with quick reactions. Uses a shuffle pedal when playing off and press-bail coverage. He is efficient maintaining proper cushion. Tough with off-hand jam showing the ability to disrupt a receiver’s route, maintain balance, and stay in phase. Transitions are fluid for the most part and he normally mirrors route breaks. He was not often challenged deep and shows the speed to stay in phase on vertical routes. Avoids blocks most of the time and has good tackling skills. He will show some stutter step on plant and drive. Rarely gets separated on a double move. In off coverage can be a little slow to react and give up too much room. Will find himself in catch-up mode at times. Will take on a stalk block but lack of size hurts him, as a big receiver can cover him up. Prone to injury as he has left games after being shaken up. Missed some time with injury in the past two years. Solid corner skills with good quickness and toughness. Size is a limiting factor. A next level nickel candidate. East-West Shrine game participant. 2017 stats: 27 T, 4 TFL, 4 sacks, 11 PBU, 1 QBH, 3 FF. BTR:left 4.46, right 4.57. OSR:2/41. Sixth/seventh round. (A-29 1/2, H-8 3/4, VJ-37, SS-4.00).
