Ourlads' Profile:
2019 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about DANIEL JONES: Duke, 6051 221 4.78. Junior entry from Charlotte, NC. A three year starter who came to the Blue Devils as a walk-on. Plays in a spread high tempo offense where he calls all the protections at the line of scrimmage. Takes mostly shotgun snaps. A tough smart player who gets hit every play. Effective play action passer on bootleg and waggle passes. Has the ability to avoid pressure and scramble for positive yards. Gets the ball out of his hand quickly. So much to the point that his receivers are not always ready for the ball. Low delivery point causes several passes to be batted down. Will see the pass rush in his face and still complete a downfield pass. Majors in quick horizontal passes, short hitches, slants, and outs plus quicks to tight ends. Good mental toughness. Improved in 2018 at setting his feet when under pressure. Must speed up footwork to delivery point. Good ball placement in the run/pass option game. Flashes good feel and touch on fade routes. Will have his share of bad decisions like throwing a floater in a crowd. Moves up well in the pocket to step into his passes. Zone read is mostly predetermined not reading the defender. College coach was David Cutcliffe who tutored the Manning brothers at Tennessee and Mississippi. Mechanically looks very similar dropping back and setting up to throw from the shotgun. Extends plays and has a nice touch on short routes. More of a manufactured quarterback than a natural athlete playing the position. A developmental project who is smart and a quick study. Graduated one year early to enter the Draft. Can scramble for positive yards. Was voted the Senior Bowl MVP, completing eight of 11 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown. 2018 stats: 237/392, 2674 yds, 60.5%, 22 TD, 9 INT, 319 yds rushing, 3 TD, 131.7 QB rating. Ball velocity 54 mph. OSR:7/16. Second/third round. (A-32 1/2, H-9 3/4, SS-4.29, VJ-33.5).
