Ourlads' Profile:
2017 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about CURTIS SAMUEL: Ohio State, 5105 196 4.34. Junior entry from Brooklyn, NY. One-year starter who played in 40 games as a wide receiver and running back. Extremely explosive and a strong playmaking athlete. Decent size frame that is built with good functional play strength. Has quick and sudden feet in and out of his breaks. Shows good footwork operation in the slot. Has an elite level of acceleration. Incredible burst and top end speed when in the open field. Plays the game fast but under control. Threat to score at anytime with the ball in his hands. Difficult player to take down in the open field. Could help and contribute in the kick return game as well. Still very raw at the receiver position. Will have to work on technique versus outside press release. Has some stiffness in his hips, runs side to side trying to outrun the defense instead of planting foot and getting vertical. Must learn little nuances of body positioning when making a catch, route running in general, and releases. Will run with hands up during a deep throw instead of bursting to a spot on the field. Inconsistent in the way he catches the ball. More than once Samuel was the most dominant player on the field versus a high level of competition. Better athlete than receiver at this point. However, the ex-Buckeye has a dynamic set of skills that could be very productive in the right system. Could contribute early on in certain packages, possible James White (Patriots) type role for him. Has some ability in kick return game as well. 2016 stats: 74-865, 11.7 ypr, 7 TD. OSR:9/60. First/second round. (A-31 1/4, H-9 1/2, VJ-37, SS-4.36).
