Ourlads' Profile:
2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about PETE WERNER: Ohio State, 6024 242 4.62. Three year starter, Indianapolis, IN. A versatile player working at the “Buzz” position in the Ohio State defense. Has lined up in the box, as an overhang player and a middle safety. His role has been as a hybrid who plays in and out of the box which projects well to the NFL. Instinctive, he shows quick, accurate fits at inside gaps. He can play downhill and make plays at the line. Also gets work over a tight end and flashed take-on ability setting the edge versus perimeter runs. Slips blocks on the move to get to the sideline. Has a burst to chase across the field and tackles well in space. Shows explosive tackling ability when he has a ball carrier in his frame. In those situations he is explosive driving through the tackle. Has been effective on edge blitzes. Has shown the speed to stay with backs and tight ends on vertical routes along with flashing mirror ability. At his best in zone coverage, seeing multiple routes and the quarterback. Does a solid job in pattern read coverage passing off routes in his drop and playing underneath intermediate patterns. Quick to break on the ball he can drop receivers in their tracks. He will occasionally be a little late pursuing and lunge at a tackle. Has some trouble losing leverage on blocks and can be sealed off at times. Needs to improve taking on straight up blocks. Not often used in man coverage, he may be best suited for a zone heavy scheme. He projects well as 4- 3 outside linebacker that can play in the box, overhang or over a tight end. 2020 stats: 54 T, 2.5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU, 2 QBH, 2 FF. Third/fourth round. (A-33 1/4, H-9, BP-20, SS-4.38, VJ-39.5).
