Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about TRENT MCDUFFIE:
Washington, 5103 193 4.44. Junior entry, three-year starter, Westminster, CA. First-team All-Pac 12 in 2021. Plays outside corner with some slot corner. Has experience in off-man and outside zone coverage. Quick feet with a smooth backpedal. Keeps his cushion and is fluid to turn and run on vertical releases. Has the speed to stay in phase. Quick and smooth in all transitions he rarely gives up leverage in off coverage. He consistently ignores the first moves away from his leverage. Uses the sideline well and can lock receivers out on his turn and run. In limited press reps has shown decent press cover skill with a reactive technique at the line. He mirrors route breaks and can undercut a route to make a play on the ball. Excellent eye discipline as a zone defender he sees the threats and the quarterback. Has a feel for route combinations and closes voids in zones extremely well. Adept at playing multiple routes in the deep outside zones with ability to balance and read the quarterback’s delivery key. Flashes physicality in run support. Quick shooting his hands into stalk blocks and slipping blocks on the move. Solid fundamental tackling skill he makes some big hits on the catch. Tackles well in space, gathering and driving through the ball carrier with finish. Not a lot of yards after contact. Not the most physical corner but willing to challenge bigger receivers. Has not been used much as a press corner as taller receivers can give him trouble on route breaks as well as 50-50 balls. Lack of length may be a factor in how teams view him. Will fit in a scheme that emphasizes off-coverage in both zone and man. Could be a solid nickel back in the right scheme.
