Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about ROGER MCCREARY:
Auburn, 5110 190 4.50. Two-year starter, Mobile, AL. Has had considerable sub package work. First-team All-SEC last fall. Is a versatile corner with experience in Cover two, three and quarters along with off and press man. Physical at the line he is adept at jamming receivers to disrupt routes. In press man he shows a strong off-hand jam to ride a receiver to the sideline. At times has stalled a receiver’s release to make him a non-factor in the route combination. In off coverage he is fluid with his pedal and maintains spacing in cushion. He has an easy turn and run and times it to stay in phase up the field. Can run hip to hip with receivers on vertical routes often locking them out on the sideline. Flashes stop/start quickness and has above average agility. As a zone defender, route recognition is solid and he can close voids in overlap zones. As a hard corner can re-route wide outs and flip his hips to get under intermediate routes. Has had some nice pass breaks and interceptions with his quick reactions. Does an excellent job playing the receiver’s hands at the catch point. In run support he is a fundamentally sound tackler gathering and driving through ball carriers. Lack of length hurts at times making tackles from a distance. Will get a little hung up at times on lateral breaks. Shows occasional hitch in transition breaking on the ball in off coverage. He needs to improve consistency in press on maintaining leverage as he can whiff on a jam at times. Has some trouble with taller receivers on 50/50 balls. He could project to a slot corner but either way he has the tools to be a solid NFL corner.
2021 stats: 49 T, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 14 PBU, 2 INT (1 TD). OSR:22/32. Second/third round. (A-28 7/8, H-9, VJ-31.5, SS-4.29).
