Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about BOYE MAFE:
Minnesota, 6034 261 4.53. One-year starter, Golden Valley, MN. Second-team All-Big 10 in 2021. Possesses a solid frame for an edge rusher. An ascending player with a good postseason and Combine under his belt. Played from both a two- and three-point stance, he’s at his best coming off the edge in a wide alignment. Has a variety of pass rush moves and flashes a lightning first step. Excellent arm under move to bend the edge he can get around the corner with speed and a closing burst. Can work the hands and set up a blocker for a counter move. Plays with knee bend and a good pad level. Uses a quick jolt with his hands to bull rush into a move. Short area quickness and agility are a plus. Has chase ability on the edge and can pursue. Solid straight up tackling skill. Has been used in zone coverage drops and has been effective as a flat defender but that diminished in 2021. He was used much more to rush the passer rather than drop. Can cover a back in a short area. Lacks consistency versus the run and can get moved around by a physical tackle. Needs to work on disengaging moving forward. Can get locked on a block and stalemated. Plays upright at times. Tackling in space has been an issue as he has some struggles with agile backs. If he doesn’t win initially in the pass rush, his second effort is lacking. At times taken out of the play rather than bending the edge or countering inside. At times seems to lack a plan. Projects as a 4-3 end or rush linebacker. Should get early reps in a rotation as an edge rusher.
