Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about MALIK WILLIS:
Liberty, 6004 219 4.50. Two-year starter, Atlanta, GA. The former Auburn quarterback transferred to Liberty where his athleticism was on full display. Utilizes and plays to his strengths and thrives in the broken, out of structure play. Displays tendency to bail out of the pocket rather than utilizing his check-down or simply throwing the ball away. Armed with elite athleticism and a rare short area burst, Willis is a playmaker in the open field, with dynamic change of direction and vision. Uses that ability to extend plays, creating opportunities for offensive success. Has arm talent on the run, throws across his body with high velocity oftentimes throwing off balance or with both feet in the air. Has a high tempo powerful release. Shows the ability to fit balls into tight windows as well as to launch the ball down the field. First move when climbing the pocket tends to be to drive his throwing side hip through, squaring it with his off-hand side hip and the line of scrimmage. Widely erratic lower body mechanics and throwing base that at times leads to poor accuracy and a loss in velocity on outside throws. At the Senior Bowl he showed the ability to learn and transfer learning to on the field improvements, especially timing and throwing mechanics on deep out breaking routes. However, he holds the ball longer than necessary, oftentimes leading to an out of rhythm and balance base and poor ball placement. Lacks patience in the pocket, and struggles with accuracy on routine NFL style intermediate passes. He does not show a preference to making it past the first read in his progression or an understanding of the different tempos required to make different passes. Shows the ability to make every throw when he is in balance and in control of his mechanics and base. His athleticism will make him a more valuable commodity than his pocket presence or lack thereof. With the stature of an NFL running back the possibilities for run/pass option packages will add to his value. The best fit for his longevity would be for him to develop and avoid NFL pass rushers in passing situations for the time needed.
2021 stats: 207/339, 2857 yds, 61.1%, 27 TD, 12 INT, 878 yds rushing, 13 TD, 151.1 QB rating. Ball velocity 58 mph. Second/third round. (A-31 3/4, H-9 1/2, VJ-DNP, SS-DNP).
