Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about COBY BRYANT:
Cincinnati, 6013 193 4.54. Four-year starter, Cleveland, OH. Paycom Jim Thorpe Award winner as the nation’s top defensive back in 2021, first-team All-AAC in 2020 and 2021, AFCA and Walter Camp first-team All-America in 2021. Highly competitive player with good size, leadership skills and football smarts. Used primarily in deep outside zone and off-man he has a smooth pedal and maintains spacing on outside receivers. Cushion and timing of turn and run are precise. Rarely loses leverage on inside cuts. Excellent vision and anticipation of route combinations in outside zone. Adept at balancing multiple routes and reading the quarterback’s intentions. Consistently tracks and locates the football when in phase. Has made several plays on the ball with outstanding positioning. With the play in front has decent plant and drive with a good angle to the ball. Battles at the catch point. Willing in run support he flashed ability to gather, wrap and drive. Has to be square, as below average wingspan shows with some broken tackles. Not the most physical versus blocks on the perimeter. As a man defender he is only average at handling route breaks and hip tightness shows. His use of angles and eye discipline are a plus, but shifty receivers can separate from him. Lacks quick change of direction on lateral transitions. Gives a lot of room to speed receivers and at times gives too much yardage on underneath catches. Lacks a recovery burst if a receiver gets behind him. Has a lot of intangibles and is a smart player who plays to his strengths. In a zone scheme he can be a solid backup with starting potential.
2021 stats: 45 T, 1.5 TFL, 11 PBU, 3 FF, 5 INT (1 TD). OSR:21/32. Fifth/sixth round. (A-30 5/8, H-9 3/8, VJ-33, SS-4.33).
