Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about DAMARRI MATHIS:
Pittsburgh, 5105 196 4.39. Two-year starter, Lakeland, FL. Honorable Mention All-ACC in 2021. Missed 2020 season with a shoulder injury. Has experience in off and press man along with outside zone and some hard corner. In off coverage used a shuffle pedal into a lateral shuffle to maintain leverage and spacing on release. Very physical on release in both press and hard corner zone technique. Changed up press to a two-hand jam on straight up release or off-hand at the line. Rarely gives up leverage. As a hard corner can ride a receiver to the sideline and flip his hips back inside. Can stay in phase on a receiver’s hip up the field. Has the speed to stay with most receivers. As an outside zone defender is decisive in processing route combinations and quick to break on the throw. Makes some big hits and plays on the ball reacting to shorter throws. Excellent ball skills he can get to the catch point and take the ball away. Solid in run support he flashes block protection and is an explosive tackler. Doesn’t always wrap but has made some huge hits and rarely misses or allows yards after contact. Will occasionally let a receiver slip by him by being too aggressive with jam or letting cushion break down too quickly. Recovery is inconsistent partly because at times loses too much ground turning late. Technique with cushion and turn needs work as he allows too much room or too little at times. Can get grabby on a route break and is prone to penalties. Has sub package potential and should be able to excel on special teams.
