Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about AKAYLEB EVANS:
Missouri, 6020 197 4.46. Two-year starter, McKinney, TX. Transferred from Tulsa for his senior season. Lengthy corner with ideal measurables for the position. Played in a variety of zone coverage including Cover two, three and quarters. Also played some off and press man. At his best as a zone defender with ability to process route combinations and attack the catch point. As a hard corner, re-routes receivers with a stiff two or off-hand jam. Sinks underneath intermediate routes with a lateral shuffle and good vision to see underneath threats. Sudden to break up on the short throw. In outside zone coverage, positions well versus multiple receivers and can find the throwing lane. Gets a read and react on the quarterback’s delivery key and can go up and get to the ball. As a man-to-man or outside zone defender, he has enough speed to stay in phase versus a vertical route. Flashes aggression in run support using his hands to work off blocks. Solid tackling skill he usually drives through tackles. Could be more consistent with block protection as he can get ridden out of a play. As a man defender some hip tightness inhibits his ability to match quick cuts. Loses leverage at times in off coverage and lacks a burst to recover. Can be late breaking out of his pedal allowing too much separation. Will need to play for a zone heavy team. Ability in multiple coverage is a plus. Will need to play special teams. Has an injury history as he has missed time in all of the last three seasons.
