Fayetteville State, 6025 193 4.50. Three-year starter, Fayetteville NC. First-team All-CIAA in 2021. Division II prospect with outstanding physical traits. Has length and height to go with speed. Made a positive impression against elite competition at the Senior Bowl. Played a lot of off and press man to go with outside zone coverage. Smooth quick pedal he maintains cushion and is quick to turn and run versus a vertical route. Has the speed to stay in phase and outstanding recovery burst if separated on a route break. In press he is reactive at the line and shows above average mirror ability versus extended routes. As a zone defender reads the delivery key and balances multiple threats. Length helps closing voids. Quick feet and agility allow him to react to timed throws on the break. Sudden plant and drive with the ball in the air. He shows excellent ball skills with solid hands for the interception. He has numerous pass breaks using his length, reacting and getting to the catch point. Willing in run support he takes good angles to the ball and drives through tackles. Not fooled in space he reacts well to shifty runners. Has some trouble losing leverage at the line in press. False steps show up occasionally reacting to quick cuts back to the ball. He will get separated on route breaks in man cover and relies on length and recovery speed a little too much. Not the best at taking on blocks, he can get a little high on contact. Williams is a high upside player with a rare blend of length and athleticism. He will need development and time to adjust coming from a small school.
