South Carolina State, 5095 180 4.38. Three-year starter, Lamar, SC. First team All-MEAC in 2021. Lean build with extreme quickness and speed. Played primarily off and press man with some outside zone. Mostly played slot corner and matched inside receivers. In off-coverage shows quick footwork with a shuffle pedal into a lateral run. Changes speeds well to maintain cushion on release. Often jams on a route break getting into a turn and run or lateral transition. Has the speed to stay in phase on vertical routes. Not often targeted on deep balls. In press he is reactive and sticky with his footwork. Smooth transitions in all directions. Has solid ball skills and can get to a ball from a distance. Has made some remarkable interceptions high and low showing an excellent catch radius. Battles at the catch point against larger receivers. Willing in run support he goes for the ankles with a closing burst. Doesn’t miss many but has a tendency to lunge and often is on a shoestring. Tackling bigger ball carriers could be a problem in the NFL. Lack of bulk and height hurts against bigger receivers and he can get covered up by a stalk block. In limited zone reps has some trouble versus route combinations where he has vacated responsibility. Eye discipline is inconsistent. He can get a little grabby on route breaks in tight quarters. His lateral shuffle occasionally costs him on quick out cuts. His recovery speed has covered up some mistakes. Will need some technique work. He’s a developmental prospect with traits to work with. Should be good on special teams.
