Ourlads' Profile:

2019 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about CHAUNCEY GARDNER-JOHNSON: Florida, 5107 210 4.45. Junior entry and two year starter from Cocoa FL. Versatile safety with experience in quarters, halves and one high coverage. He is a converted corner that was primarily a deep safety as a sophomore and this past season transitioned to the nickel or hybrid position. Solid covering down on the slot or tight end. As a deep safety he shows the range to play the deep half normally taking good angles to the ball with a quick flip to get over the top. Has the speed to match up on a slot as a quarters player. Changes direction well and is fluid in transition. Adjusts in space and is a functional tackler with some explosiveness on contact. Normally brings his feet to finish. As a nickel he is at his best in man cover where he uses his match-up ability to mirror cuts and run with vertical routes. Solid in the short zones with good use of peripheral vision to see the threats and the quarterback. Uses his hands to take on blocks and normally is quick to shed versus a slot. Tough against perimeter run as a result. Not an aggressive downhill player as he can be a step late reacting from the deeper zones. Will allow too much room at times. Occasional hesitation breaking on throw in the underneath zones. Had missed tackles coming from space as a sophomore but was much improved this past year. Is relatively new to safety as a converted corner and playing a new position the last three years has created some hesitation. A versatile safety who can fill numerous roles in various packages. Kick cover ability has been outstanding. 2018 stats: 71 T, 9 TFL, 3 sacks, 2 PBU, 2 QBH, 4 INT (2 TD). BTR:left 4.99, right 5.39. OSR:7/24. Second/third round. (A-30 7/8, H-9 1/4, VJ-36, SS-4.22).
