Ourlads' Profile:
2019 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about LONNIE JOHNSON JR: Kentucky, 6017 213 4.54. One year starter from Gary, IN. A junior college transfer who became a starter at the end of his junior year at Kentucky. Has outstanding physical traits for the position with height and long arms. Has experience in a variety of coverage and technique. Used in off and press man along with Cover 2, 3 and quarters. In press is either reactive or uses an off-hand jam to disrupt take off. Turn and run is solid and he stays in phase up the field. Flashes mirror ability and can stay with most route breaks. In off coverage shows a quick pedal and usually maintains pace. Disciplined to not give up inside leverage and rarely gets beat deep. Quick burst on short throws in front of him. Flashes tackling ability with occasional big hits. Balances multiple routes in zone along with high/low concept in Cover 2. Inconsistent taking on blocks and pursuing versus the run. As a press and hard corner will whiff at times on the jam and reroute. Lateral transitions are delayed at times showing some hip tightness. Ball skill is inconsistent. Occasionally loses the ball in deep routes. Struggles to get to the catch and high point. Often has a big cushion in deep coverage and can give up extra yards on short throws. Seems to lose concentration at times affecting effort. He is a prospect with tools and teams will like his length, but deficiencies are evident. Has been outstanding on special teams with kick blocking skill. 2018 stats: 23 T, 4 PBU, 1 FF, 1 INT. BTR:left 4.76, right 4.79. OSR:15/33. Fourth/fifth round. (A-32 5/8, H-9 1/8, VJ-38, SS-4.11).
