Junior entry, three year starter, Marietta, GA. First team All-ACC in 2022. Plays as an edge defender normally aligned in a three point stance anywhere from a four to a wide nine alignment. Excellent size and length for the position he plays with a high motor and natural knee bend. Quick at the snap his explosive get-off creates penetration on gap moves and power engaging blockers. He uses his length and violent strike with hands to separate and shed blocks. Can neutralize a blocker setting the edge and knock him back while working to the ball. He closes quickly and makes a lot of plays in the backfield. Tough to get around on the perimeter as he can chase to the sideline. Has enough short space agility to redirect inline to make plays inside. Shows solid tackling skills with bend and finish. As a pass rusher his quickness makes him effective penetrating a gap and working an inside stunt. He can also bull rush into an outside move using his hands and arms to rip over or under. Maintains his pad and covers a lot of ground quickly coming off a block. Has the speed and bend to turn the corner. Adjusts well to quarterback step up. Some stiffness shows at times working the edge and changing direction. Has to battle getting upright and loses his power base. There are some limitations to his fit as he’s not going to consistently play in space. Has some coverage ability as an underneath flat defender but his reps are limited. A 3-4 team will look at him as a rush linebacker and edge rusher in the nickel. His best fit is in a 4-3 as an end. Has been very productive and should be a first round pick.
2022 Stats: 40 T, 11 TFL, 6.5 sacks, 2 PBU, 5 QBH, 1 FF. 1st round.
