Junior entry, two-year starter, Fort Wayne, IN. Two-time honorable mention All-Big 10. A tall, athletic man in the middle capable of abruptly firing out of his stance and reaching his points in a hurry. The ease and comfort he shows as a lateral mover will sit well with blocking schemes that especially favor zone components. There is natural cohesion from the snap to his first two steps and he rarely looks fooled or out of position. Can get his feet off the ground and brings an accurate, violent punch to the engagement. Comfortable on the move despite higher-than-ideal hips. Climbs to second level with precise timing and plus-power. Can reach the three-technique in pass protection. Works hard to extend hips when engaged. Gets his entire frame involved but doesn’t always show lower body functional strength. Will get caught over-extending from the waist, showing face to ground. There are some pad level issues that show up in pass protection and because of the compensation he creates by bending from the waist, the lapses pop up from time to time. Will wind up on the ground too often. Quality secondary rush moves will beat him on the move. Needs to keep more awareness on the location of feet. He has the intelligence and tools and his shortcomings are correctable. He can blossom into a quality starter in time once he masters consistent footwork and lower body strength.
2nd/3rd round.
