2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CODY MAUCH:
North Dakota State | H: 6052 W: 306 40: 5.00 A: 3238 H: 0934 W: 7878
Three-year starter, Hankinson, ND. Three-time All-MVFC, first team in 2021 and 2022. Two-time FCS All-America, first team in 2022. Mauch is a hyper-active blocker who will bring instant energy to a front. He plays with a fire and passion snap after snap that, if channeled correctly, will make a tangible difference. He is also a plus-athlete with active and powerful hands. When he lines everything up, he can stay attached and square to his target. Never stops chopping his feet and will play through the whistle. There are credible size concerns if he wants to stay at tackle. His skill set will work best at guard in a zone-blocking scheme where his burst and balance will be best utilized. Plays like he is on fire. Quick out of his stance with an effective, powerful burst. Strong initial contact and with the right blend of forward lean and control. Tremendous in space. Peels off to the second level in a hurry and can play just as sudden as his target. Great reaction-based balance. Can alter his weight and momentum with ease. Creates impressive pop from his hip extension and timing of his arm extension. Can do only so much to make up for a size-shortcoming. Falls below the line when it comes to both arm length and wingspan, may be forced to make a position move. Needs to be more accurate and precise with his footwork. Will get too aggressive and overshoot his intention at times. Hand placement is inconsistent. Mauch dominated at the FCS level and has the kind of attitude that is needed to play in the NFL trenches but there is a good chance he moves inside which could even further lengthen the time before he is ready to contribute.
OSR:9/37. 2nd/3rd round.
