Fifth-year entry, two-year starter, Hamden, CT. Third team All-Big 10 this past season, honorable mention in 2021. Has the classic Y-tight end frame and opportunity for bulk. Aligns both inline and split out at receiver. Excellent burst on his release, especially in his three-point stance, to work downfield in a hurry. Drops his pad level with an easy bending lower half when engaging with defenders. Great physical toughness at the point-of-attack to stalemate first level defenders at the line-of-scrimmage. A technician as a run blocker who utilizes his physical play-style and athletic ability to win in both zone and gap run schemes. Moves naturally in space and will climb to the second and third level seamlessly. Elite in pass protection using quick feet, an excellent anchor, and great hand placement with long arms to keep separation. Sharp route runner who will square off his routes and cut instantaneously with notable hip fluidity and change-of-direction skills. Ran a colorful route tree in college which will help his transition to the next level. Tracks the ball with balance and control which will maximize his plus-sized radius. Soft hands that will pluck the ball out of the air from all angles. Shows the ability to contort around his frame and adjust for balls outside of his strike zone. Will drag defenders for yards after contact. Needs to increase his functional strength to take the next step as a run blocker and create significant push. He lacks foot speed in space to take the top off of defense, and it takes him a while to accelerate despite his long strides. Needs to be more physical in contested catch situations to win more consistently. Not someone who will make defenders miss in space.
2022 Stats: 35-418, 11.9 ypr, 3 TD. OSR:8/15. 3rd/4th round.
