Two year starter, Arp, TX. First team All-Big 12 in 2022. Former safety who’s still developing at linebacker. Has played on the ball, overhang and inside linebacker. Lanky prospect with length, he’s patient in read and react and is decent with inside run fits. Flashes the ability to strike and stack blocks with his long arms. Can set the edge lined up on the ball. He can work off a block on the move and stay with the right angle to the ball. Overall a quality athlete with agility and speed he’s at his best scraping to the alley and chasing to the perimeter. Flashes tackling skill with gather, drives and wrap on tackles. He’s very good at making plays in space. Shows blitz potential with a burst hitting a gap. When lined up outside on the ball or as an overhang defender, shows a quick get off blitzing the edge. Adjusts well to quarterback movement and can close. His biggest asset is cover skill as an outstanding zone defender. As a former safety he recognizes pattern pressure quickly and shows vision seeing the quarterback and receivers. Uses his length to challenge the throwing lane and has created bad throws by his presence. His ball skill and length helps getting his hands on balls. Excellent closing voids and playing high low routes. High cut and will struggle changing direction at times. Lacks lower body power and will get knocked upright at times on plays at him. Needs to develop consistency with stack and shed. Has shown improvement in 2022 but still needs work. Has some notable missed tackles as he doesn’t always bring his legs and finish. His versatility is attractive and he has starter potential.
