Three year starter from Fort Lauderdale, FL. First team All-SEC in 2022. Battle is a solid athlete who is versatile enough to play multiple roles in a secondary. Was primarily a one and two high safety but also was used to roll post snap to the strong safety/flat defender position in one high coverage. Has also been used occasionally to match slot receivers. As a quarter’s safety he played from a flat foot read and showed outstanding ability to track downhill to force that alley. Can keep a blocker at bay or avoid a block working downhill. Normally a secure fundamental tackler driving and wrapping. He makes most plays in space. A smart zone defender showing solid processing skills in the deep zones. As a one high safety he shows above average range in deep zones and does a solid job breaking on throws in front of him. Rarely beaten deep. He has a knack for reading route combinations and closing voids in zones. Adept at reading the quarterback delivery key and finding the throwing lane. His positioning takes away potential targets. Solid flat defender versus high low routes he gets underneath intermediate routes and breaks up on flat throws. In run support there is some hesitation coming off blocks and he will miss a tackle by lunging. He has a slight issue with angles which contribute to occasional misses. In man coverage at times he either lets the cushion break or in using a catch technique is late to turn and run. Some hesitation breaking on the ball. He makes more tackles than plays on the ball. Has not been a big playmaker or elite in any one area but does most things well and should find a home in an NFL secondary.
