Two-year starter, Frisco, TX. Transfer from New Mexico prior to the 2020 season. Honorable mention All-Big 12 this past season. Plays his best as a 3-4 defensive end as a two-gap player. Thick, stocky frame. Quality upfield burst off the line-of-scrimmage. Physical at the point-of-attack with a violent engagement. When playing head-up, shows a solid anchor versus solo blocks, and will hold his ground in order to leverage his gap responsibility. Will peek into the backfield to locate the ball carrier while maintaining gap integrity. Displays ability to shed blocks with powerful hands, and will snatch offensive linemen to squeeze around them. In pass rush, utilizes exceptional strength to drive back the pocket, even when getting double teamed. Quality lateral agility in stunts when moving gaps, and will drop his weight and skinny up to insert himself into gaps. Plays with an outstanding motor, and will make plays all over the field through effort. Shows the desire to make an impact in pursuit, and takes great angles to the sideline. Will need to add weight to play at his natural position as some variation of a fourtech. Has a bad habit of lunging when engaging with offensive linemen. Needs to improve his hand placement in order to consistently win leverage, as he does not work his hands inside position when he lands them high or outside. Shows fringe contact balance, and ends up on the ground too often. Does not show a number of ways to win in pass rush other than pushing the pocket with his strength. Need to see a better pass rush plan going into every snap.
