Four year starter, Lakeland FL. Undersized prospect who has a good football IQ and has been a leader on the Florida defense. Solid key diagnose to read run/pass he fits inside runs getting downhill and locating the ball. Has range to chase from alley to alley and usually takes good angles to the ball. Flashes ability to take on blocks at a low pad level and can slip blocks on the move when he gets ball side leverage. Has cover skill and can match backs out of the backfield and take an inside receiver up the seam. In zone coverage can work an inside receiver and zone off to find the ball. Reacts to pattern pressure and usually positions well on multiple routes. Has fundamental tackling skill when faced up. He wraps and drives on tackles with a clean shot. Has some problems overrunning tackles in pursuit. Has had some misses in space. Inconsistent taking on blocks, his play strength is suspect as his separation from blocks often collapses when a blocker hits him straight on. While at times effective slipping blocks he can also get too easily sealed from a play in pursuit. Shows some tightness in hips changing direction and doesn’t have the quick twitch a smaller linebacker needs. While solid in most coverage situations he is not a playmaker and has trouble finding the ball in man coverage. Pursuit angles are inconsistent and he lacks elite speed to chase. Has special team value and could make a team that way along with backup potential.
