One year starter, Winston-Salem, NC. Second team All-ACC in 2022. Was a rotational player the previous two seasons with significant playing time. High motor player with solid length for an edge defender. Listed as an outside linebacker he has played from a two point stance as a wide nine and a three point as a five technique. He’s instinctive reading run/pass and shows a solid first step and punch to separate from blocks on the edge. Can slip blocks on the move and has lateral agility to make plays on the perimeter. Adjusts to movement and can drive through tackles in space. Solid ability to flatten and pursue on the backside to chase or react to cutbacks. Has experience in flat coverage and gets under intermediate routes and reacts quickly to throws in the short flat. As a pass rusher he shows an outside arm chop to go along with a push pull into an arm over or under. Flashes bend around the corner and can adjust to the quarterback stepping up. Plays with relentless effort and makes plays with second effort. Lacks consistent quickness at the snap and doesn’t show extended speed to chase. Many of his big plays were with a clear path to the ball. Is inconsistent escaping blocks and doesn’t win a lot with first move against an athletic tackle. Needs to develop counter moves to work around the edge as he’s not an elite speed rusher. With development he could fit as a rotational 3-4 outside linebacker and edge rusher. Will need the right scheme.
