Ourlads' Profile:

2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about DARRELL LUTER JR.:

South Alabama | H: 5116 W: 189 40: 4.46 A: 3238 H: 1038 W: 7778

Three year starter, Hattiesburg, MS. Transferred from Pearl River CC in 2020. First team All-Sun Belt and named to several All-America teams in 2022. Somewhat high cut prospect with above average length. Luter played the boundary corner with experience in outside zone and press and off man coverage. Often used a press and bail technique in off coverage. In off-man coverage played with a big cushion initially and used a lateral run to stay on top of the route. In press coverage uses both a reactive press technique along with flashing an off-hand stab. Has the agility to match and mirror route breaks and can use his length to ride a receiver on an outside release. Has eye discipline to keep focus on the receiver throughout the route and locate the ball at the catch point. Quick to react with the ball in the air he can get up and attack the ball at the high point. He’s been productive getting his hands on balls. As a zone defender processes route combinations and is not fooled by high low smash concepts. Positioning has been consistent. Willing wrap up tackler he makes most plays but sometimes gets dragged for yards after contact. Not the most physical in run support he lacks the functional strength to consistently separate from blocks. Tends to be upright in pedal and was most often in press and bail or lateral run in off coverage. Sometimes the cushion was too big as a result. There’s some inconsistency with leverage in press man. He’s been productive on special teams and has return skill. He projects as a core special team player who will compete for playing time.

2022 Stats: 42 T, .5 TFL, 7 PBU, 1 QBH, 1 INT. OSR:19/30. 5th/6th round.
