Ourlads' Profile:
2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JALEN BROOKS:
South Carolina | H: 6020 W: 195 40: 4.62 A: 3418 H: 0912 W: 8014
Three-year starter, Harrisburg, NC. Transferred from Wingate University. Brooks’ path to the draft was anything but straight. He was not granted eligibility to play for the Gamecocks until halfway through 2020 because of the transfer and then he left the team halfway through the 2021 season because of personal issues. Thus, Brooks only had one full year worth of tape in FBS. This, and his raw playstyle create numerous questions around his trajectory. However, his blend of size and long speed combined with the ability to compete for the ball in the air and make the spectacular catch is attention-grabbing. He is a project, but one with a high enough ceiling to be an impact big play threat. Arm length along with his frame give the passer a big target to throw to. Explosive straight-line mover that can build his rate of speed to separate deep. Strong presence and an aggressive approach after the catch. Excellent coordination when he leaves his feet in pursuit of the ball. Locates and tracks the ball smoothly. Needs to refine his release techniques. Too many recovery steps as a route runner, a little stiff in and out of his breaks. Lack of experience shows up when examining the consistency of his skill set. Needs to show a better tempo when running the short to intermediate route tree. Brooks has proven he can be a big play threat in the SEC, but the risk will come from the lack of volume, but put him on the back end of the depth chart while he contributes on special teams and let the coaches work with the raw tools.
2022 Stats: 33-504, 15.3 ypr, 1 TD, 51 yds rushing, 1 TD. 7th round/PFA.
