Two year starter, Oklahoma City, OK. First team All-Big 12 in 2022. Physical and versatile safety with ideal length to go with playmaking skill. He has experience in the box, one high and split zone concepts in cover two and quarters. Was primarily a quarters safety this past year but is a good fit in the box and has some big nickel characteristics. Physical in run support from a flat foot read. He has excellent downhill tracking ability from alley to alley and can slip blocks on the move. In the box he has linebacker-like instincts and flashes powerful fundamental tackling technique gathering and driving through tackles. As a split zone and one high defender he can flip his hips to get over the top and has above average range in the deep zones. Solid processing ability he can see and position on threats and react to the delivery key. He has centerfielder ball skills with angles to the ball and ability to high point interception opportunities. Has been an opportunistic ball hawk taking advantage of quarterback mistakes. Has some match and mirror skill versus inside receivers but this was not on display extensively. There is some inconsistency in angles and he could under and over run plays in the deep outside. Gave up some big plays as a result. Downhill angles also were not as consistent as desired with the same result. Had some problems with missed tackles in space as he occasionally lost leverage early on tackle opportunities. Has been an outstanding special team player with kick blocking and cover skills. Has backup and sub package potential.
2022 Stats: 99 T, 3.5 TFL, 7 PBU, 6 INT. OSR:3/20. 6th/7th round.
