Three year starter, Brenham, TX. First team All-Big 12 in 2022. Undersized but high motor off the ball prospect who has been productive in a 3-3 stack defense. Played outside linebacker in the scheme usually stacked behind a 5 technique but some reps inside and some as an overhang player. Instinctive he’s patient with initial read and once he “sees it” is quick getting downhill. Solid run fits he shows a classic downhill L to the ball. Adept at pursuing on the backside with sideline to sideline range and a closing burst. Flashes take on ability shooting his hands into blockers with leverage to slip blocks on the move. Excellent tackling skill he sinks his hips to strike, wrap and drive. Makes plays in space keeping leverage to eliminate cutbacks. As a zone defender he shows ability to process routes in underneath zones and isn’t attracted to the “no cover zone” underneath. Solid flat defender he gets depth under intermediate receivers and is quick to break on short flat throws. Can match backs and tight ends in a short space and has enough speed to stay with a seam. Lack of size is a hindrance in coverage versus a tight end as he isn’t quite athletic enough to win at the catch point. Powerful blockers can cover him up and wash him out of plays. Lacks the strength to stack and shed versus physical tight ends and interior linemen. Has potential as a stack Will linebacker. Will need to be in a scheme that allows him to run and chase. Should be a factor on special teams.
