2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about BRENTON COX JR.:
Florida | H: 6032 W: 252 40: 4.82 A: 3318 H: 0914 W: 8034
Two year starter, Stockbridge, GA. Transfer from Georgia in 2019. Cox has a solid frame and athletic ability to go with excellent length for the position. Lined up primarily in a wide nine on the edge but would get into a three point versus a tight slot or tight end. He flashes quickness and power at the snap shooting his hands into a blocker. Has knee and ankle flexion to get under a blocker to separate and shed. Shows lateral agility to redirect off blocks and chase on the perimeter. Has been effective on inside stunts showing a burst coming off the hip of an interior lineman’s outside move. Shows a variety of pass rush moves including a one hand stab into a rip, a swim move and an inside spin to counter oversetting tackles. Has shown a powerful bull rush into a move and can collapse the pocket. Has been productive pressuring quarterbacks and getting his hands up in the throwing lane. Has limited experience dropping in coverage but agility could project success dropping to the flat. Doesn’t show great bend and squeeze to the quarterback and can be slow getting around the corner. He tends to play upright and is too often stalemated. At times he’s slow getting into a move and stays in a bull rush with no disengagement from the blocker. Doesn’t always stick to responsibility and his motor is inconsistent. Has been dismissed from two programs for discipline issues and that can have an impact on how teams view his value. Tools are there but attitude issues have to be addressed.
