Ourlads' Profile:

2018 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about MAURICE HURST: Michigan, 6012 292 4.90. One-year starter from Westwood, MA who played in a rotation his first three years. The explosive interior run stuffer lines up at 0, 1, 2, and 3 technique in Michigan’s multi-personnel defense. Has below average height and a small lower body for the position. Overall has very good athletic ability with great explosiveness, good play speed and change of direction. Solid run defender. Has below average lower strength to anchor, and gets moved versus double teams. At his best as a penetrator or in backside pursuit where he finishes with good burst and effort. Chases the ball downfield. Very good pass rusher, has an explosive upfield burst and likes to work an edge. Very quick hands and likes to use either a club/arm over or club/rip. He can get skinny and has a closing burst to the quarterback. Fringe sack production but gets plenty of pressures and hits. Doesn’t generate movement on his bull rush due to size and strength. Very good awareness versus screens to retrace his steps. Projects as a solid starting 3 technique in a 4-3 defense. He wins with a very good combination of competitiveness, quickness, and want-to. A scheme specific one gap specialist who has rare hand use and quickness. Hurst is a probable first year starter who will provide impact play. He was sent home from the Combine with a heart condition, but he knew what the problem was. It had occurred previously as an incoming freshman and he was cleared at that time. After leaving the Combine he had a battery of tests and was cleared again. Pro day numbers: 31/VJ, 8-8/BJ, 4.62/SS, 7.74/3 cone. Medical exclusion at Combine. First/second round. (A-32, H-9 1/2, BP-29, 10-1.69).
