Three year starter, Rockwall, TX. Phil Steele second team All-SEC in 2022. Twitchy, athletic prospect with solid length for an inside linebacker. Played safety his first year at Vanderbilt before transitioning to linebacker. Instinctive, he’s quick to diagnose keys and get downhill versus the run. Plays with a hot motor and flashes take on ability turning quickness into power. Plays with knee bend and quick hands. At his best in backside pursuit with range to chase to the perimeter. Has agility to quickly redirect versus cutbacks. Has been used effectively to blitz inside gaps with consistent anticipation at the snap. Can beat an offensive lineman out of his stance and make a play in the backfield. Strong cover linebacker his safety experience shows. He has the agility to match and mirror tight ends and backs out of the backfield. As a zone defender get depth in his drop, processes route combinations and can find the throwing lane. Quarterbacks often have to look elsewhere. Sudden plant and drive with the ball in the air. He normally tackles well in space but lacks power to consistently drive through tackles. Will fall off a tackle at times or give up yards after contact. He’s not as effective on runs at him. Can get too easily knocked back or stalemated by a powerful blocker. His playing style should project well as a core special team player and he should find a role as a sub package or Will linebacker.. Draft status will most likely be scheme dependent.
