One-year starter, Bay City, MI. Transfer from Michigan for his final two seasons. An inside linebacker who plays best on heavy passing downs when he can drop into coverage. A high motor player who adds production through his extra effort. Quick to diagnose run/pass, and reacts rapidly. Scrapes across the offensive line with solid lateral agility. Exceptional foot quickness and balance to open his hips and drop to his zone while keeping eyes on the quarterback. Changes direction fluidly in space with loose hips. Great zone awareness to recognize threats to his area through his peripheral vision while tracking the quarterback’s eyes. Reacts quickly when the ball is thrown and uses considerable burst when breaking out of his stance. Good foot speed and man technique to mirror running backs to the flat. Uses proper tackling technique and consistently wraps up the ball carrier to finish the play. Adds value as a blitzer using his explosiveness to shoot downhill and add on to the pass rush and to stunts. Cannot be relied upon to win with strength and physicality. Needs to be more assertive when inserting into gaps in the box, as he gets too passive and gets picked up. Needs to take better angles as he will over and under-pursue the ball carrier regularly. Struggles to get off and shed blocks versus climbing wide receivers and tight ends, needs to utilize his hands more. Offensive linemen will take him for a ride when they get their hands on him. Allows yards-after-contact when tackling due to his lack of functional strength at the point-of-attack.
2022 Stats: 81 T, 3 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 PBU, 3 QBH. 7th round/PFA.
