2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JOSEPH NGATA:

Three-year starter, Folsom, CA. Ngata was a five-star recruit who never quite met the expectations many put on him when he arrived in 2019. The traits are there with an exclamation point next to the size metrics. His enormous hands and play strength set him up well for contested situations and post-catch playmaking. The frustrations showed up too often over the past two seasons, however. Poor route running and drops in addition to fighting through multiple injuries left a lot of boxes unchecked throughout the process. There is something left inside of him we have not seen yet and the few flashes he put on display will be worth a chance on day three. Long strider with enough build up speed to factor vertically. Can get over the top and stay over the top. Adjusts to the ball well and coupled with his plus-size and strength, will create plays in traffic. Gets to it at the apex of his extension, showing good hand-eye coordination. Quick to get north after the catch and plays a physical brand. Has made an impact on special teams both as a gunner and returner. Has not progressed his ball skills or route running. Too many drops and not enough urgency off the line. Will get caught up against quality press coverage. Needs extra time to reach his top speed. Lacks feel for locating windows and using proper tempo on short to intermediate routes. Ngata’s plus-frame and long speed matched with the try-hard mentality will be worth taking a shot on late in the draft. Should at the very least contribute as a gunner on special teams.
2022 Stats: 41-526, 12.8 ypr, 2 TD. OSR:36/46. 7th round/PFA.
