Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about VINCENT GRAY:
Michigan, 6012 192 4.54. Two-year starter, Rochester, MI. Honorable Mention All-Big 10 in 2021. Long physical corner that improved greatly in 2021 over previous seasons. Experience in quarters, Cover three and off and press man. Played both outside and slot corner in the Michigan defense. In press, uses a stiff two- or off-hand jam to disrupt the route. Can mirror route breaks and stay in phase versus most receivers. In off coverage his pedal is smooth and keeps proper distance. Flashes the ability to time turn and run to stay in phase. Solid zone defender both in the flat and outside. Processes route combinations quickly and is consistent to execute a Cover four switch. Uses length to get in the throwing lane causing quarterbacks to hesitate. Can be physical in run support using hands to control blocks. Fundamentally sound tackling he gathers and drives through ball carriers. Takes an extra step on plant and drive, creating room on the catch. Makes more tackles than plays on the ball as a result. Can be a little slow breaking out of his pedal. Lateral transitions can be labored creating room out of a break. At times he adjusts cushion and turn and run versus speed which can leave too much room underneath. Lacks a recovery burst if a receiver gets by him. He played well within the Michigan scheme moving between the slot and outside. Could project at either spot. Should do well on special teams with a shot to make a team as a versatile backup.
