Ourlads' Profile:

2017 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about DEREK BARNETT: Tennessee, 6030 259 4.88. Junior entry from Nashville, TN. Three-year starter. Only player in SEC history with three straight 10 sack season. Twenty-nine of his 33 career sacks came against SEC opponents. Lines up in a three-point stance on the right side of the Vols’ 4-3 defense. Will stand up and drop into coverage or slide inside for the best match-up. A violent and powerful pair of hands are his ticket to NFL success. An NFL ready pass rusher from a technique standpoint. Flexible enough to get low and stay low as he bends around the corner. Can whip blockers around the edge and back inside on double moves. Finishes every play with gusto. Elevates the defenders around him. Multi-down threat to stop the run as well as rush the passer. More of a blue collar worker than a God-given quick twitch pass rusher. Lacks ideal length and initial explosiveness. Wins with effort, not athleticism. Speed in space is average. Plays well on his feet. Plays on his feet like an inside linebacker shuffling over bags with his broad shoulders square to the goal posts. Does a nice job of stringing the play to the sideline. Plays with enough leverage to drive a blocker into a punter. Takes good pursuit angles and runs plays down from behind. Teams run away from his alignment. Barnett takes over games for stretches and seems unblockable at times. His hand power and lower body strength consistently give him the initial advantage over blockers and he can finish them in multiple ways. He won’t win any awards in workouts nor does he look the part of your typical top tier defensive end prospect. Lacks the length and speed, but his on-field IQ and well-developed technique can make up for any physical shortcomings that he may have. He is a consistent three-down threat who shows passion and fire for the game. He will find ways to impact the game weekly. 2016 stats: 56 T, 19 TFL, 13 sacks, 5 PBU, 16 QBH, 2 FF, 1 INT. Edge speed:left 1.96, right 2.15. OSR:29/40. First/second round. (A-32 1/8, H-10, BP-DNP, 10-1.70).
