Ourlads' Profile:
2017 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about JALEEL JOHNSON: Iowa, 6027 309 5.35. Two-year starter from Lombard, IL. Named to the first-team All- Big 10 team after a strong 2016 performance. Johnson’s big game versus Michigan where he collected nine tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and a tackle for a safety sent the scouts back to Iowa City scrambling for the tape. He has developed and refined pass rush moves. Can force a blocker off balance and free himself of contact with swim and rip moves. Finishes aggressive and hard. Tackles with a purpose. Has a thick upper and lower build. Plays with country strength and power. One of his best attributes is rushing the passer from the inside. Well-coached and technique savvy. Good short area quickness. Has good redirect quickness. Can get cleared out of his lane by lateral blockers. Lacks the desired length and will get locked onto by quality run blockers. Johnson shows solid one-gap penetration as a pass rusher. His 7.5 sacks were among the nation’s leaders from interior defensive linemen. Shows flashes of dominance that can wreak havoc from the inside. He has a quick first step and developed hand moves that can prevent blockers from gaining inside position. Will need to work on play-to-play stoutness and awareness before he can be considered an every-down player, however. Senior Bowl notes: Flashed good play against the run moving laterally. Quick to shed and release. Works his hands inside and separates. Has some leverage and bull rush ability in pass rush, but will get tied up at times. 2016 stats: 55 T, 10 TFL, 7.5 sacks, 2 PBU, 5 QBH. Edge speed:left 2.12, right 1.98. OSR:15/16. Third/fourth round. (A-32 1/4, H-9 3/4, BP-19, 10-1.91).
