One year starter, Silver Spring, MD. Imposing size and length, Nchami has played outside linebacker in the Maryland defense along with defensive end in four down looks. Plays at a low pad level with consistent knee bend. Powerful player he can stack and shed tackles on the edge and chase to the perimeter. Solid tackling skill he gathers and wraps on tackles in space. Solid lateral movement he is effective chasing on the backside. Disciplined to not get too far upfield against the run. As a pass rusher is powerful with bull rush and can work into a move with solid bend to turn the corner. Can keep blockers at bay with an arm under after a solid jolt. Adjusts to quarterback step up and flashes a closing burst. Solid effort player he has a consistent motor. Has been used to drop to the flat and he uses his length to find the throwing lane. Positions well versus high low routes causing quarterbacks to look elsewhere. Doesn’t have elite quickness off the ball and as a result has to win early to be a factor in the pass rush. There are times when he is a step late coming off a block. Could use some refinement and more variety in pass rush moves. Could use more in the area of counter moves to offset his edge ability. His progress as a player has been hindered by season ending injuries in 2019 and 2021. Should be a fit in a 3-4 but has potential as a 4-3 defensive end.
