2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about MALIK CUNNINGHAM:
Louisville | H: 5117 W: 192 40: 4.56 A: 3138 H: 0912 W: 7538
Four-year starter, Montgomery, AL. Left Louisville as the program’s all time touchdown scorer, edging out Lamar Jackson. Started 47 career games and was constantly one of the top rushing threats at the position in the league. Will be a scheme-dependent prospect at the next level. His first and second most important weapons will come on the ground. While he does have a strong enough arm and there were flashes of success as a thrower, not much of it was sustained. He was an erratic passer, both mentally and physically. It will be a hard sell to anyone that, after this much experience under his belt, Cunningham can turn things around against faster and more complex defense. The electric playmaking ability can carve out a role for him in some offenses, however, in a backup and/or gimmick role. Smooth bursts and explosions can pick up yards in big chunks. Free and easy hips that can alter direction in an instant. Minimal lost speed on lateral transitions. Excellent balance and body control. Has a strong arm and creates plus-torque from the rotation of his hips. Can hit every point on pro-caliber throws with or without his lower body fully involved. Struggled to make multiple reads in sync with the offense. Does not always recognize back side coverage. An emotional player who can fall off the rails quickly. Small frame that will have a hard time holding up against a full slate of NFL hits. His best football was over three years ago and he appears to have already hit his ceiling as a passer and may not progress toward anything more than a backend quarterback that is run-dependent.
2022 Stats: 136/218, 1568 yds, 62.4%, 8 TD, 5 INT, 565 yds rushing, 12 TD, 130.3 QB rating. OSR:5/8. 7th round/PFA.
