Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CHASE LUCAS:
Arizona State, 5110 180 4.48. Five-year starter, Chandler, AZ. First-team All-Pac 12 in 2021. Has experience in a variety of coverage including off and press man, outside zone and hard corner Cover two. Also has been used as a slot corner. In off coverage uses a shuffle pedal that is often lateral. Normally maintains leverage on the release and can stay in phase on deep vertical routes. As a hard and press corner he is reactive rather than physical, using his body position to re-route. Solid zone defender in short and deep zones. Processes route combinations and finds the throwing lane. Flashes a quick plant and drive with the ball in the air. Has made some big hits and plays on the ball. Has eye discipline to see multiple threats in zone and focus on the receiver in man. Shows quick feet in man cover to match route breaks. Has tackling skill and can wrap and drive. Occasionally takes a bad angle and takes himself out of plays. Has missed some tackles by lunging. Sometimes he seems to guess on the receiver’s intention rather than reacting. Gets separated and loses balance versus shifty receivers more than you want. Not the most physical traits for the position and has recovered from an ACL earlier in his career. Has shown intangibles like leadership and has been a mainstay of the ASU program. Has return skill with a shot as a backup and special team player.
