Three year starter, College Station, TX. Two years as a starter at Northwestern before transferring as a redshirt junior. Has played multiple roles including deep safety, box and slot defender. Overall read and react is outstanding with solid reactions in run support. His ability to diagnose the play is excellent. He is quick to trigger downhill from deep alignments and is adept at forcing in the alley. Shows sideline to sideline range pursuit and usually gets in good position to square up tackles. As a slot defender he is instinctive, reacting and flashes tackling skill in space. At Notre Dame he settled into a primarily one and two high safety role. Excels at finding the ball in the deep zones. Quick to read route combinations, he shows outstanding ball skills with a knack for getting to the throwing lane and high pointing interception opportunities. Gets his hands on a lot of balls. Interception numbers have slipped at Notre Dame partly because quarterbacks are leary of throwing the ball in his area. Has been effective limiting gains and not getting beat deep. Has shown ability to match and mirror speedy slot receivers with enough speed to cover deep vertical routes. There is some inconsistency in pursuit angles as at times he will over or under run a play. This has led to lunging at tackles and either missing or hanging on by the ankles. He may not be an elite athlete but his football IQ and instincts make him a solid prospect. Will fit with a team that plays a lot of zone concepts with a good deal of cover two.
