Two year starter, Hampton, GA. Long-legged prospect with imposing size for the position. Has a versatile skill set. Has played split zone primarily with quarters and a box strong safety. Has also played corner in past seasons. Often played from a flat foot read with solid instincts versus the run. Quick to read run/pass and gets downhill in a hurry. Can ward off blocks with long arms and is effective tracking to the alley. He flashes the ability to make plays in space and shows power tackling. Will launch into tackles and flashes patience to tackle in space. As a flat defender uses his length to get underneath intermediate routes and find the throwing lane. Shows match skill versus inside receivers with reasonably fluid hips to change direction and mirror route breaks. Uses length to get to the catch point and is tough to throw over even when out of phase. As a deep zone defender can get to the sideline from the hash but is inconsistent processing route combinations. Has given up some plays on seam routes in overlapping zones. Shows tunnel vision at times locked on the quarterback or one receiver. Speed to recover is questionable. Has some trouble gathering on tackles and often goes for big hits without wrapping. Has some notable misses lunging on the perimeter. Has not shown great ball skills as he makes more tackles than plays on the ball. Showed well at the East/West Shrine Bowl with solid play and two interceptions. Has size and tools to develop. Should contribute on special teams early.
