Two year starter, with 2023 being his first year on the edge. First-team All-SEC in 2023. Unique frame with imposing mass and length to go with solid ankle and knee flexion. Was an interior depth player until 2022 where he started primarily as a three technique. Versatile player who can line up on the edge in wide nine or five along with kicking inside to a three technique. Plays with a high motor and second effort. Excels in run defense with remarkable ability to hold the point and knock a blocker back into a running lane. Adept at working through combo blocks and double teams. Explosive attacking a block, he can quickly stack and shed with knee bend and a violent hand strike. He often gets immediate separation with his long arms while maintaining leverage. As a pass rusher he flashes a quick get off getting into a blocker’s frame to work a move. Bull rush into a move has been effective as his power can knock a blocker upright. Often used a push pull to escape taking an inside or outside path. Works both arm under and over to attack a tackle’s outside shoulder. Can get around a tight corner and move laterally to adjust to quarterback movement. Lacks elite chase speed and lateral agility which at times allows speedy running backs and quarterbacks to get around him in space. Range in pursuit is somewhat limited. Not always quick at the snap which hurts his ability to get to the quarterback. There are times where he gets upright and is slow to locate the ball. If the first pop is stalled he struggles to reload and gets locked up. His best fit may be 3-4 end with a move inside in the nickel.
