Ourlads' Profile:
2024 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JONATHON BROOKS:
Texas | HT: 6003 | WT: 216 | 40 time: 4.45 | Arm: 3112 | Hand: 0914 | Wing: 7578
Junior entry, one-year starter. All-Big 12 in 2023. Had to spend two years behind Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, both of whom were drafted last year. Had just 57 carries over his first two seasons, but passed that number during the fourth game in 2023. As the season progressed, Brooks showed he was fully capable of handling the lead-back role. Runs with tremendous tempo and has a feel for daylight. Combine those traits with his bendy, agile lower half and propensity to break tackles and he averaged 6.1 yards per carry, the same Robinson did in 2022. Will miss the spring and the start of summer team activities as he recovers from a torn ACL, but if team doctors are confident in his ability to regain his form, he should be considered someone you can insert into the starting lineup by the end of year two. Blends the contact balance with vision and toughness to create on his own repeatedly. Final gear in the open field can lengthen separation from tackler. Nifty footwork to slither in and out of crossed areas. Natural hands catcher will get to balls away from his body. Fast to turn upfield after the catch. Will be an extension of the passing game right away. Success as a blocker was reliable. Will get too high at times through traffic. Does not always run behind his pads, will offer soft contact to tacklers. Needs more power presence in short yardage.
2023 Stats: 1139 yds, 6.1 ypc, 10 TD, 25 rec, 286 yds, 11.4 ypr, 1 TD. Draft projection: 2nd/3rd round
