Three year starter. First-team All-Big 10 and second-team All-America in 2023. Ideal size and length for safety. Plays with a high motor and a degree of swagger. He’s versatile and has played one high, the strong and weak side box and as a split zone safety in quarters and cover two. As a quarters and box safety he flies downhill and tracks ball carriers with no hesitation. His angles to the ball are normally precise and he makes a lot of plays near the line. He’s a physical tackler making big hits and using his length to wrap up ball carriers in space. Has range in pursuit and can make plays across the field. He’s a solid underneath cover safety with ability to stress quarterbacks with his range and length in underneath hook/curl/flat zones. Can drop down from deep alignments to find underneath throwing lanes. Shows remarkable extension to get to interception opportunities. He flashes solid range as a split zone safety to go with ability to read the delivery key and see route combinations. Very good at balancing vertical receivers in cover two and can open up to quickly get over the top. In dropping to the box he was used at times to match inside receivers and has shown ability to run with vertical routes and mirror most route breaks. As a somewhat high cut athlete he has some stickiness in change of direction creating stall in transition. Footwork can be a little herky jerky in the deep zones and his pedal is a little stiff. Can be late reacting as a result. At his best with the play in front of him and in the right scheme he can be a force in the NFL.
