Junior entry, one-year starter. Had significant playing time sophomore year. Traits based prospect with size, speed, power, and length. Played the Mike in the Kentucky defense. Powerful and explosive at his best. Downhill or shuffle and press he flashes ability to be a playmaker from tackle to tackle. Shows strong hands attacking blocks and can gain ball side leverage and shed on the move. Has sideline to sideline range and a closing burst chasing on the perimeter. Changes direction well and flashes ability to adjust to shifty backs in cutback lanes. Explodes into tackles with gather and drive. Has blitz skill he has knack for timing a gap. If blocked he flashes a quick swipe through the block. He can also bull rush a back and get free in a hurry and chase. Has range in coverage with depth and quickness in his drop. Has been opportunistic with interceptions with good hands and a sudden break on underneath throws. Not the most instinctive. Run fits can be segmented and late. He can also fly to the alley and overrun the play and miss a tackle. He is vulnerable to cutbacks as plays are extended and misdirection inline. Can run into blocks on the blitz when he has a path to the ball. In coverage, lacks discipline and is too easily attracted to a crosser or short route pulling him out of his drop. Some of his issues can be coached as with limited experience he is still an ascending player. Someone will like the traits, especially as a special team player that they can develop.
